Careers in Media Studies

We at the TIU Tribune are back to talk to you about careers this month again and this month, we are going to talk about a particular course which some of you might not have heard of.

Bachelor in Media Science.

It is one of the fastest growing and most popular career options and courses that are prevalent in West Bengal and all over the country as well.  This degree gained popularity in the 1980s and grew leaps and bounds. Since then, it has taken careers in the world of media and communication by storm and has proved to be a degree/course which is highly instrumental for a career in the sector of mass media and communications. Media Science pertains to everything from radio, television, newspaper (journalism in any medium), films and most importantly, the internet. It can be treated as a general subject but specific areas such as advertising, Public Relations, Event Management, etc. are also covered by it.

A Bachelor in Media Science gives way to jobs to people from all realms in life. It is not only related to reporters and journalists in newspapers and audio-visual media and radio but also to film industries, event management/public relations, corporate communications, photography, market research and such a lot more.

It is a graduation course having a duration of three years and one need to have an eligibility of having completed 10+2 in any recognized board. The course is affiliated to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology.

After having completed a course in Media Science, the job and career opportunities are diversified like no other. Graduates can work as Broadcast journalists, Freelance Photographers, News Anchors, Public Relations Officers, Market Researchers, Filmmakers, etc. So you get the basic point of studying Media Science; you are not constricted to having just one career option, say only journalism or only photography or only film-making. You have all the options held up for you and you can choose to specialize in any of them, whichever you are comfortable in. Also, one can go ahead and do their Master degree in Media Science itself which makes the prospect of more career options even several notches higher.
