Alumna June, 2020

Alumnus of the Month

Anand Jha

Current City: Kochi, India
Course: B.Tech in Civil Engineering
Batch: 2013-2017

Why did you choose this course?

With the qualities I possessed, I strongly felt that this stream could give me exposure to fieldwork thereby gathering more practical knowledge and team tasks. Considering India as an emerging country, I saw a good opportunity in the field of infrastructural development hence chose Civil Engineering.

Would you like to share a few words about your family and your school days?

I belong to a loving middle-class family with a corporate background. I completed my schooling from 8 different schools and cities which gave me exposure to varied groups of people across most of the metropolitan cities and that has indeed helped me to enhance my adaptability.

Share your achievements, initiatives, and associative/club involvement as a student of TIU!

Belonging to the very first batch of Techno India University, I was one of the founding members of the annual cultural fest, Techno Sahotsava, annual sports fest, Techno Rudra and also our first fashion show team named Helix. As students, the batch 2013-17 had a lot to start and evolve over.

Tell us what you are currently up to?

Currently, I am serving as an officer in the Indian Navy with my rank being a Lieutenant. I belong to the executive cadre and would shortly be joining the submarine arms. My grandfather had also served the Indian Navy and undoubtedly, he’s my source of inspiration.

Defence is completely different from what one goes through during his/her normal college life. We are rigorously trained to recover from every hostile situation, both mentally and physically.

How has TIU helped you become who you are today?

At Techno India University, in its very nascent stage and we being a part of the very first batch, have enjoyed an extraordinary relationship with our mentors and professors. Apart from academic guidance, they have also taught us to explore and nurture our hidden talents and maximize our overall potential.

I am grateful to Anit Adhikari Sir, Sujoy Biswas sir, Suman Chatterjee sir and Ishan Ghosh sir for their unconditional love and support and because of their guidance, I have achieved a lot in my life.

What is a piece of advice that you would like to share with current TIU students?

Every individual is expected to possess the same bookish knowledge but what makes an individual extraordinary is their self-confidence, solid personality, convincing power and most importantly the skillset that is developed over the years. I would personally advise the students to consider their college tenure as an incubation period. Having fun and enjoying your college days should be one of your priorities keeping in mind that you are simultaneously building your own worth.

If given an opportunity, how would you contribute to the development of the existing students and the university?

I hardly get a chance to visit Kolkata nowadays, but whenever I get an opportunity, I would love to address the students and inspire them to join the armed forces.

Lately, I have come across students who have put up their grievances regarding placements and have blamed the institution altogether. Rather, they should start introspecting and gradually enhance their skillset for a brighter future.
